Can you believe it? There’s just about a month left until you have to pack up pretty much everything you own and move away from the place you call home. If you were anything like me, you can’t wait to get out of your town and start a new adventure. You can’t wait to make friends and try literally everything on campus that there is to try. Despite all of the fun things that are going to happen, like going through fall recruitment and actually being your own boss there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.

1. If you’ve even considered doing it, you need to do it!

I cannot stress this enough. You will make life long friends during the first week of school. There is so much going on from concerts to involvement fairs that you will run into what feels like every student on campus. If you’ve thought about going through recruitment or talking to every single person at every single booth during the involvement fair, you need to do it. I promise that you’ll come out with a family away from home if you just put yourself out there.

2. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.

This is so important. Often people tend to lose themselves trying to fit it. While it’s great having friends in all sorts of cliques, don’t change yourself to make them like you. Nothing good ever comes out of being someone you aren’t. Don’t be afraid to wear a cute outfit every day. Don’t be afraid to be loud and outgoing. If people really want your friendship, they’ll love you for who you really are.

3. Don’t be afraid of being judged.

This piece of advice really fits with the previous one. Unlike high school, people don’t really care about what you’re doing or wearing. You shouldn’t be afraid of wearing sweats every day. Everyone does it because let me tell you, college is exhausting. Most students are going through the same hard classes and high-stress levels that you are. You’re really all in this together.

4. Don’t forget to eat your fruits and veggies.

I’m serious about this one, y’all. Freshman 15 is real if you don’t take care of your body. And once the freshman 15 has been reached, it’s hard to get rid of it. Junk food is okay in small portions but make sure you are still consuming healthy foods and exercising when you get the chance.

5. Enjoy it while it lasts

Your first year of college is going to fly by. You’ll be done with finals and back at home with your family before you know it. Your first summer in college won’t be nearly as fun as actually being in school. You’ll miss all the friends you made throughout the year and you’ll even come to miss late study sessions with all of your classmates. The people you have grown to love like family will be scattered across the country for the months of summer vacation. So, enjoy your first year while it’s still your first year.

With all of this being said, you’re going to love college. There’s so much to do, so many people to meet. You may find your line up if bridesmaids and your future husband. Of course, this may not all happen in your first year, but what you do in your first year will determine so many things. So remember, don’t be afraid to be yourself and get out there. Do everything there is to do and eat your fruits and vegetables. It will all pay off when you’re walking across the stage accepting your diploma on graduation day.

Sincerely,

A Used To Be College Freshman

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
