Hey God,
It’s me -- the girl sitting in her room at 12:30 a.m. surrounded by midterm papers, a half-eaten bowl of Easy Mac, and a full venti caramel iced coffee from Starbucks. I know that you haven’t heard from me in a while; not since finals of the fall semester when I asked for your help on that English paper (thanks for that, by the way). The truth is I’ve been really busy (as if you don’t know that). Between the papers, my sorority, social events, and choosing between food and sleep, I’ve drifted away from you. I am worn, I am weary, and I am desperate to reconnect. In the middle of writing my Religion 100 paper, I was reminded by John Chapter 14. Jesus, you said, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” ( John 14:1). Within reading the first verse you gave me peace, something that has become so rare to me as a student in college. You then went on to say, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it" (John 14:14). I am reminded that in times of trouble, all I need to do is cry out. God, this letter is my cry. I need to feel close to you again, but I have ran so far away. I am guilty of putting worldly things before you. My head fears that you have left me also. However, you remind me that no matter how far I drift from you, as a believer I always have you in my heart.
God, I am so unworthy of your grace but you give it to me anyway. I owe you more than I have been giving you and I will continue to owe you all of me. I promise that from here forward I will think before I act, remembering that I am always a reflection of you, even on a Saturday night. I will try my best to make time for you not only in times of defeat but in times of joy. I will constantly praise you. I promise that I will have childlike faith as I peruse my dreams and remember that you always have a plan.
God, I ask that you forgive me for getting lost in the commotion of starting college. I ask that you continue to bless me more abundantly than I could imagine because you always do. I ask that you remind me when I am not acting in a way that pleases you. I ask that you guide me to follow a path in which I will be able to become successful and be able to spread your word through the blessing you will give me
Thank you, God, for always being there whether it be during 1 a.m. studying or 3 p.m. while I’m driving down the road. I am so blessed to be a child of Father who continuously blesses me with grace. I look forward to what you have in store for me.
Love,
Your daughter in college
