Dear Childhood Me,
First of all, no matter what you think, listen to your parents. Everything I am saying here has been said at one point or another by Mom or Dad. They already went through their own childhood and learned from it, so they are just trying to help you out.
Go outside! When you are young the heat and the annoyances that come with being an adult are practically nonexistent. The dirt you get under your fingernails doesn't bother you. Your energy is endless. But don't forget the sunscreen! The five minutes is takes to apply before going outside it worth it! The sunburn after will happen no matter what you think and will always be painful!
Try new food! It is harder to expand your food pallet when you are older. Dad is right about food taking time to become an acquired taste.
The rules are there for a reason, just remember that when the time comes you will understand why the rules are there. When you are old enough it will make sense and you will be thankful you had such great parents.
Be fearless! Don't get so caught up in being cautious. Go on an adventure! Explore! Play truth and dare because the stuff kids come up with is harmless compared to adults.
Tell Mom and Dad thank you! They do so much for you like teaching you your multiplication tables, checking your spelling, reading to you, feeding you, putting up with you and most of all loving you. It might feel like they are ignoring you sometimes and you might not always get your way, but in the end it will make you a better person.
Enjoy school and learn while it is easy! Try to actually retain the information because it will make your life easier and you feel better about yourself when you can still recite the Gettysburg Address.
Watch less television with Mom. She watches shows that are often too adult for you, instead go play with your friends or read a book! Don't let Mom and Dad sit down too long, convince them to go on a bike ride or a walk with the dog!
Help out around the house more. Keep your room clean because cleaning it when all you can see of the floor is the path to your bed is no fun. Don't complain about picking up after the dog. Find something to keep you entertained while you do it like sing songs, write stories in your head or play with the dog. Help more because it will mean less fights and more time spent doing things you actually want to do.
Be yourself! Don't worry so much about what other people think about you because the only one that matters is you. Be someone you are happy and proud to be. Life will be a lot easier and more fun once you realize it doesn't matter what other people think about you.
Sincerely,
Adult You
