An Open Letter To My Best Friends

Dear Best Friends,

Hey! How are you? I just wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for me as my best friends. We’ve shared so many great memories together: movies, beach days, sleepovers, dinners, camp days, after-camp hangouts and so much more. With many of you, we’ve let days turn into nights and back into days just sitting, talking and laughing; that’s something I’ll always remember and appreciate.

Whether it’s been a few days or a few months since we’ve seen each other, I know you’re always there. You’ve never left my side, so why would you start now? One of the reasons we’re best friends is because we’ve always had each other’s backs. Sure, we’ve probably had some arguments, but look at where we are now. We’ve always come back from them because we’re meant to be friends for the long run.

Thank you for being there for me when no one else was. I’ve been through some tough times, especially recently, and you’ve always been there to pick up the pieces. When I felt like I had no one (I knew that was silly, because I had you guys) you were there, and I hope you know that you'll always have me. Thank you for texting me, calling me, Snapchatting me, talking to me or even just sending positive thoughts my way. I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me through the good times and the bad.

Thank you for making me laugh when I had my heart broken. Through my breakup, you were there every step of the way. You let me talk about it, cry about it and stop thinking about it. Thank you for taking me on long car rides with the music blasting, grabbing dinner with me, talking to me on the phone for hours, baking me cookies and letting me know it was going to be OK. You were right.

Thank you for telling me that it was OK to cry, and for everything else you did to help me get over the pain and embrace my independence and eventually start my next relationship. Everything you did helped me become so much stronger, and I am so grateful for that.

Thank you for spending endless days and nights with me, just because. There are times when we’ve seen each other all day, hung out that night and then hung out again the next day. I love spending time with you, even if we don’t go anywhere, and I hope you know how much that means to me.

For my camp best friends: I love that we’ve spent all day together for five days in a row and we still hang out at least once a week; we never get sick of each other! Thank you for being the people I can count on when I want to take a break from the routine of my life and get out with my friends.

Thank you for loving me and never leaving my side. You’ve been there through practically everything, and some of you have literally been there through everything. Everyone has their ups and downs, and I’m so thankful that you’ve stayed by my side through all of mine, as I have with yours.

I’ve never given up on you, and I know you’ll never give up on me. Thank you for loving me the way I am and never trying to change me or make me into someone I’m not. I appreciate you loving me for me because that’s the best thing I could ask from a best friend.

Lastly, thank you for being you. Thank you for being your crazy, weird, silly, funny, awkward, fun-loving, smart, generous, totally amazing selves. I love every part of each and every one of you. You have so many wonderful qualities that make you unique and special, and I love all of them. Never stop being crazy or weird or awkward or silly; that’s part of why we’re friends! Always be true to yourselves and never change who you are, because you’re as close to perfect as you can get, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Thank you for being my day-ones, my ride-or-dies, my long-lost sisters, my main girls, the peanut butter to my jelly or whatever else I might call you. Thank you for being my best friends. I love you all.

Love,

Your Best Friend Emilie

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
