Anyone who has a little sister has the privilege of knowing what a blessing they are in our lives. Our sisters are little versions of us that we probably pick on endlessly and make fun of until we’re blue in the face, but who always hold a special place in our hearts that could never be filled by anyone else. Even though we’re the ones that are supposed to be good role models for them, it’s our little sisters that make us want to be better people so that they have someone to be proud of. No matter the age difference, any kind of distance that currently separates you two or how often you get the chance to talk on the phone, there is no bond that is quite like the sisterly bond. This is an open letter to my little sister that I hope everyone can relate to and share with their own little sisters:
Dear Little Sister,
Even though you may not know it, you singlehandedly make my life ten times better everyday. You’re in the back of my mind whenever I make a decision, because you are one of the people in the world that I want to impress the most. I want to give you someone to look up to and to strive to be like, despite the fact that you’re already pretty amazing on your own.
I know I tease you relentlessly and call you weird in probably every conversation (there’s no shame in being weird because I am too), but you’ve already accomplished so much more than I could have imagined and I’m so excited for you and proud of you every time you reach a new milestone. It also continues to amaze me that I see myself in you, even though you have your own completely distinct and incredible personality as well.
I hope you know already, but I especially hope you know after reading this that I want to do everything I can to give you advice and get you through every kind of sticky situation, while also celebrating your successes with you. I’ve been through all of the things you’re going through and that you will go through, and I only hope you know that you can come to me with anything and I’ll drop everything to talk to you. It’s my job to make sure that you avoid all of the pitfalls that I didn’t.
You are beautiful, smart, and talented in so many ways. Everybody around you is lucky to know you and to be your friend, but I feel confident saying that I am the luckiest of them all because I get to call you my sister. There’s no other person in the world that can take your place. I love you and I know you’ll continue to do great things. You never cease to impress me and you’re gorgeous inside and out.
You make me better and for that I hope I can somehow return the favor to you.
