Not to sound like a complete psycho, but I knew the second I met you that I wanted you to be my little diamond sister (or little as other sororities would say). You were just so perfect. You were so quiet, and smiled demurely at all the jokes I tried to crack during that first conversation during recruitment. I had to lean in close to hear you talk, but, as you told me about all the things you were involved in in high school, I could see that you were much more than a shy potential new member. If anyone asked about you during those three days, I could only say how wonderful you’d be in Alpha Delta Pi. You were made for our chapter, and every day of your subsequent membership has shown that you are a sister that everyone should aspire to be like.

During preference night, I knew you’d found your home as you quietly said, “I feel happy,” when I promised you a sisterhood that would accept you for who you were. I just knew that Alpha Delta Pi was the place for you, and that you’d be successful in our sisterhood. I felt in my heart that you would love us as we would love you.

When I was asked who I wanted my little diamond sister to be, I answered with your name, because there really was only you. I saw a quirky sense of humor that would laugh at the same jokes as I did, but I also saw compassion for other human beings in a way that I’d never experienced. I wanted to be someone you could depend on, and who could serve as a role model for you. Needless to say, there were days when these goals failed epically, and you were left to take care of me. I can only say thank you, because you’ve pulled me out of some pretty tough situations making you the actual dream little diamond sister.

I will never forget the look on your face when you found out I would be your big diamond sister. I was so nervous that you’d be disappointed, but the smile you had reassured me that everything was just as it should be. You’re amazing, and sometimes I forget that you were once a shy little alpha. It’s been a genuine pleasure to watch you transform before my eyes into such a vibrant, confident woman. You continue to grow every day into a truly spectacular person, and it’s amazing to me that I’m more proud of you everyday. You’re going to do some great things in your life.

My heart basically grows like the Grinch on Christmas when I see how much our chapter adores you. I truly believe that you’re a sister who is loved beyond measure. You smile, I smile. You cry, I cry. I’ll never truly be able to explain how upset I become when you cheat yourself out of happiness. You deserve success, love, and happiness. Basically, you deserve everything good that life has to offer, and I hope you know that the only person standing in the way of those things is yourself.

I love every part of our friendship. You’re my little diamond sister, and sometimes I feel like I raised you. It’s a genuine pleasure to be your big diamond sister, and I am so happy to call you mine. You hold such a special place in my heart, and you’ve genuinely taught me to be a better friend. I cannot imagine my life without you, much less college in general. You honestly make me a better sister, and I love you very much. May we always continue to be #goals.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
