Dear people who attend any general admission concert,
Hello, it's me your local pop punk, live music junkie. I go to several concerts a month, for the same reasons that most of you do too. We go to sing our hearts out and to be as close to our faves as possible.
Over time I have begun to see the same problem over and over again and let me just say that one thing I do not care about is that you're "literally dying because you're so hot."
NEWS FLASH, SWEETY.
We are all in the pit. We are all hot, the only way to cool off is to get out and stand in the back.
Also, when you wave security over to where you are, you better just want to have small talk, because saying, “please tell the crowd to step back, I feel like I am about to pass out” is not going to help you.
You need to realize that the 200+ people behind you don't care if you have both feet on the ground or none at all. They don’t care if someone is too close to you or if the girl's hair in front of you keeps sticking to your sweaty arms. The only thing everyone else cares about is trying to be front row.
Another thing, if you are going to need water, which you most likely will, bring your own or pay for one. Sometimes security will come around and sell you water for six bucks per bottle, and if you need it, pay the six bucks. Don't expect people to give water to you for free just because you're thirsty and hot.
WE ALL ARE.
Also, if you're claustrophobic, the pit might not be the best place for you to stand during the show. During intermission and before the show starts, hang with your friends up front. When the lights fade and you hear that first guitar string, understand that people will push you to get to the exact spot you are standing in and they will not care about your feelings. Throughout the whole show, people will nudge, hit and step on you, and they might scream in your ear, but that is just the price we pay to see our favorite band.
Don't twist my words, I do not condone violence at any concert.
I am just saying that accidents happen. Sometimes you headbang too hard and hit the person's head in front of you. Other times, you lift your arms and pull someone's hair on the way up. Just prepare for accidents to happen. Please don't get me wrong, most people in the pit will pick you up if you fall and give you a shoulder to cry on if you got separated from your best friend and your anthem is playing.
But when you shortcut, whine and complain, and heckle the band members it makes the whole environment develop lots of tension. Concerts should always be a place to make lifelong friends and listen to some good music. If you realize you are doing this please do me and everyone else in the pit a favor, and stop. It's not all about you. It's not about me.
It's about letting the music in front of you engulf you like a pool on a hot summers day, and remind you why you're alive.
