I wrote these in a letter several years ago to an old friend. I hope at least one of these helps you, and you remember to mix/match/ and adjust as your life needs.

  1. "To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.”- William Shakespeare. Now in case you do not understand, or only think you understand, it means whoever you are, be it always. If you decide to pray before a meal, pray before your meal no matter who are eating with. If you decide that you are into random hookups, don’t lead on the modest, nice girl only to break her heart.
  2. If you do decide to be monogamous, find someone who enjoys late night talks, popcorn kisses, and is kind to waiters and waitresses.
  3. Always say sorry, but don’t expect it to make a difference. Don’t let it make a difference. It is one word against a thousand actions.
  4. Find what is true and beautiful in your life as it is now.
  5. Remember to bloom where you are planted.
  6. If/when you fall madly in love, let it change you.
  7. Never forget you have not fought a great war or endured a great depression. You have not endured what your grandparents endured, so listen to their stories.
  8. Everything you have been fed by the media is inaccurate and worthless. Stay angry and find your own truth.
  9. Be sure to find the balance between cigarettes and tofu.
  10. You will be given freedom. Freedom is a beautiful thing, but in freedom, most people find sin. Be careful.
  11. In love, the right decision is often the easy one. If it is easy to treat your person badly and disrespectfully, you do not deserve to be with that person. If you feel extra compelled to be perfect for someone, stay with them as long as they are treating you well and kindly.

It's not the easiest list to follow, but it is worth a try. Please, do try.

Sincerely,

A concerned peer

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
