Hey, you. I really hope you are reading this from the comfort of your lavish apartment and not our parents basement. I bet you are missing college a lot, right now, or maybe you are just missing the prices of college drink specials. I wanted to write to make sure that you are sticking to who you are and have not let the struggles of real life get you down. Here are just a few things I want you to remember.
Please do not settle. I know it is tough that all of your friends have begun the world of serious dating and getting engaged. It is going to feel so tempting to settle for someone just because you feel the need to have someone. Please do not do this. You only have so little time to chase your dreams and feel the freedom of no one holding you back in life. Continue to live to your fullest potential and I promise the right person will come along, eventually.
Do not be afraid of taking chances. All of college, we hid our feelings and did not take risks for fear of rejection or failure. Please find your bravery and stick to it. Life is too short to wonder what if all the time. Finish that novel and submit it to a publisher. Do not hold back on your dreams; you will never know what could be if you do not try.
Change for no one. It took us so long to figure out who we are and who we wanted to be. Too many times, we got stuck in a situation where we felt the need to change for another person, or let someone's actions change us. No matter how tough the world gets, remember who you are. You are independent and hate the clinginess of others. You are at your happiest when you are enjoying the sights and sounds of your favorite coffee shop. And you love to be accepting and get to know all kinds of people. Do not change these things. They make you who you are.
I hope you are doing well out there in the real world and it is everything you have imagined it would be. I want you to go out with friends and have fun, but also get ahead in your career and prove that you belong in the business world. If you ever feel like you miss your old life, just remember the memories are only a few hours away. Auburn will always be there, and it will always be your home.
