A Letter to My Best Friends Who Made My Freshman Year One for the Books

A Letter to My Best Friends Who Made My Freshman Year One for the Books

As my freshman year of college is coming to a close, I can honestly say I am ending the year with no regrets. I have learned a lot about life in general (inside and outside of the classroom) and this year I feel like I truly found myself. From recruitment, homecoming and crazy tailgates, to formal and weekend adventures, I made some memories I will never forget but, most importantly, with people I will never forget.

So Hannah, Alex, Madison, Abby, Rachel, Taylor, Alle, Allie, Lauren and Jessica -- this one is for you, girls. Whoa, what a long list. I guess you can say I'm pretty lucky to have found ten amazing women I can call my best friends. I don't know what I would do without you guys, nor do I have any idea how my freshman year could have been as great as it was without y'all. From nights in playing cards, or days out exploring the wonderful town of Muncie with my shwoody girls; to formal, sponto, homecoming and weekends out with my fellow baby phis, I really don't think this year would have meant as much to me without you guys by my side.

I came into college with a pretty poor mindset that I would never find "real" friends, but I'm forever grateful that I proved myself wrong. I know I can count on any of you for absolutely anything and It's a really great feeling to know you are all right here with me. It is incredible that I didn't just find good people that are "fun to hangout with," but I developed real and personal friendships with all of you. You are not just the girls that I can share a laugh with, but the people I go to for my thoughts, secrets, and problems, and most importantly the people I share my deepest values with.

Each and every one of you are unique in your own way, and you all bring something different to the table, but at the end of the day, I am so proud that we found each other and get to share the best four years of our lives together. I would not trade the memories we've made thus far for anything in the world, and it is an understatement to say I'm ecstatic to see what happens next. They say the friends you make in college are the friends you will keep forever, and I can only hope this stays true.

I love you all to the moon and back.

Xoxo,

Nik

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
