A Letter To My Mom As The Summer Ends And College Begins
Kaylee Morin

Mum,

Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for always being there for me, for dealing with my craziness, and for loving me so, so much. As another summer before college ends, I have to thank you for these past three months in particular. So, here it goes.

Firstly, thank you for being my alarm clock. You have been there to get me up for work, my internship, or whatever I have going on that day. While I do set my phone to go off, you are always there to ensure that I will actually get out of bed and do something productive with my day. I wish you could be there to wake me up in my dorm room, but hopefully I’ll be on time to class.

Thank you for doing my laundry, it really is nice to not have to do it by myself all of the time. The amount of times I have come home to find my dirty clothes to be clean have been countless, and I will miss it dearly when I am back at school. Plus, no one can fold my socks quite like you can.

Thank you for all of the homemade meals, another thing that I will miss oh so much when I am back to eating school food. All of the breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and desserts that you have prepared have been outstanding, and don’t worry, I will be coming home for homecooked meals when I can.

Mum, thank you for being my best friend not only this summer, but always. You are my adventure buddy, and are always willing to try new things, whether it be new food, a new show, or a new outdoor adventure. I always know that I can count on you, no matter what may be going on, and that no matter what I say or do, (no matter how stupid), you will always love me.

As I go off to college, you have no idea how much I will miss you. Don’t worry, I’ll call all the time and drop by home as often as possible. I will never take the time I have spent living at home for granted, as having a mother like you has made it incredible.

Finally, thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to school, and pursue all of my dreams in life. I know that I will always have your full support, and that you believe in me. You truly are an amazing woman, and I cannot thank you enough for all that you do. I love you so much mum, and I hope that someday I can be half the parent you are to your children. Thank you for being you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
