Dear high school me,
It's me, your college self. Three years have passed since I was were you are now. A lot has changed since I graduated high school, there are so many things that I wish I would have know when I was in your place. Things that I bet you are wishing you knew. High school is one of those things that fly by, and taken for granted, but I'm writing this to you to today to share with you the things I wish I knew when I was in your place.
To start, moving is tough, and I know moving to some place new for the start of high school was rough. You hated your parents for making you leave a town that you had fallen in love with and friends that meant the world to you. You constantly felt like your life was ending and nothing was worth it any more, but take my advice when I tell you to get out of your room, stop listening to that sad music, and go hang out with the new friends that are wanting to get to know you. Your freshman year goes by to fast to dwell on a life you could of had. Live in the moment and appreciate the new opportunities presented to you.
When it comes to sports, stop doubting yourself. You have a beautiful God given talent, don't second guess it. You work harder then anyone that I've ever known, and deserve all the accomplishments you will receive. Don't worry about the haters and the nay sayers, you deserved those starting positions on both varsity teams. Keep working hard and keep your head up, when the going gets tough, you get tougher. That spot is yours and make it known. Don't get caught up in the drama of the girls who are just trying to drag you down! Its not worth your time or energy. You've got bigger and better things to accomplish than to worry about some one who still lives at home and hasn't left town yet... Shhh don't tell anyone I told you that. Just keep that as your own satisfaction in knowing they truly aren't worth your time.
Now listen closely when I tell you this, HE IS NOT WORTH IT. You are beautiful! You are worth so much more then the constant questioning of if you are good enough. Listen to Dad when he gives you his advice, I know you don't want to hear it but I'm admitting it to you now, he is right. It's not worth your sleepless nights of tears, and the constant thinking that you aren't pretty enough or skinny enough. I tell you right now, you are gorgeous and worth so much more, also you've got a banging body and truthfully I wish I still had it! So if you aren't going to listen to Dad, listen to me, yourself, when I tell you this; He is not worth it, you are worth so much more and deserve so much better then the way he treats you. Don't give in to his little games and smooth words, believe me when I tell you that is so worth the wait!
I tell you this, cherish your time with your siblings. You will never get those moments back, trust me there will come a time that you will want them back and you'll wish you didn't fight about those little things. So hug them, right now, go! And cherish your time with them.
Before I close this letter to you, I have one more thing to tell you. Tell mom and dad you love them more. They work so hard to provide for you and make so many sacrifices that you'll never realize. Love them unconditionally, and make sure they know it.
High school isn't easy, but I can promise you things will get better. Your hard work is worth it, you are worth it, and it's all gonna turn out just fine. Keep your head up, its only four years.
Love,
Your college self
P.S. College is so much better! So you have that to look forward to!
