An Open Letter To My Older Siblings,
First off I wanted to thank you. Thank you for taking care of me whenever I needed you to. When mom or dad wasn’t home, you made sure I was still taken care of. My hair was brushed, I was fed, and on the bus on time; you were the substitute parent even if you didn’t want to be. Thank you for always having my back, and it was nice knowing my siblings would always protect me if I needed it. Thank you for still being there for me, and for answering all my questions about life when I don’t quite understand what I’m doing. You help guide me the most you can, even if I’m stubborn and ignore every piece of advice you give me. It’s nice to get an outsider’s opinion from someone with more experience than me. Thank you for always listening to my drama even if you have no idea who I’m talking about. Thank you for our lunch dates even if it is just for the purpose of catching up.
You all gave me goals to look for and try to achieve. Even if you don’t know if you are doing this life right, your little sister still looks up to you and wants to be just like you. Whether you know it or not. You’ve taught me lessons on how I should be treated, how friends come and go, how sometimes the people you trust the most screw you over, and how to avoid talking to people at public gatherings. All of these have become very valuable pieces of information I need in life.
For most kids, when they are an only child, their parents are their world. But that is what you guys are for me; you are who I look for at Thanksgiving. You are one of the only people I actually care about what’s going on in your life, the only people I truly want an opinion from, and your opinions are the only ones I care about. I don’t want to disappoint y’all with being the youngest. We have all had different experiences in life. These experiences have made us better equipped than the other siblings in the family to handle the obstacles we face. Luckily, I had good role models to follow. If I am even half the wonderful people y’all are, I will be content with myself in this life.
It’s different when your family is actually your friends. You get a choice in that matter. I would pick y’all every time, hands down. I would put y’all before I put myself. Thank you for being what I needed to grow up happily, with protectors by my side.
Love,
Your younger, inexperienced, annoying, stubborn little sister who loves you.
