A Letter from a Daughter Who Lost Her Father
Morgan Spakes

Let me start by saying you’re not alone, however I know my words alone will not make pain disappear. I'm a firm believer in no matter what anyone says the situation remains the same. The pain doesn't go away, it's only masked in certain moments. Losing my father when I was a junior in high school to a long eight-year battle with cancer changed my life. That day time stopped, nothing went forward and no matter how hard I tried time wouldn't go back. "God had a bigger plan." So for all those reading this that have stood in that position, a daughter or son that has lost a mother or father, you are not alone. Almost four years later I still feel the empty spot my father left, I constantly tell myself that "God had a bigger plan." My father wasn't in the stands to cheer me along my last two seasons of softball, he missed my whole senior year from pageants and Homecoming, to my high school graduation. All those days still came and went without him there but the pain remained. "God had a bigger plan." Now I'm two years into college, two years into my job at the local public safety department, and days away from my 20th birthday and I still think about you. What all I would do to have you back. I've been to my breaking point many times and then friends and family wrap their arms around me. So my last advice to you this: don't be afraid to cry. It's going to hurt and it's okay to fall apart at times but remember it's okay to smile to (your parents will always want you to smile and enjoy moments in life). Don't let it hold you back in life, continue to make that parent proud every day. So yes, I will always be a daughter whose father won't be there to walk her down the aisle, but I'm also always the daughter who is loved not only by my mother and stepfather but I'm also loved by a guardian angel who I call my daddy. So remember, you're not alone and you are extremely loved. God has a bigger plan.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
