Dear My (oh so lovely) Grandparents,
Thank you for taking care of my little brother and I when we were little, no one looked after us like you guys did.
Grandpa, thank you for teaching me multiplication before we started learning it in school, for I got to be ahead of everyone and it made fourth grade a breeze.
Grandma, thank you for waking up early and letting me follow you around the house while you would pack up my Dad’s lunch for him. Waking up at the crack of dawn with you helped me realize the true beauty of early mornings.
Grandpa, thank you for always scolding me when I wear make-up or get my nails done, for you showed me to understand the true meaning of natural beauty.
Grandma, thank you for letting me put honey on my lips when I told you my lips were chapped, only so I could lick it off within the next minute.
Grandpa, thank you for always having a smile on your face and being so full of energy all the time. (I especially love it when you say, “Have a good weekend day!” when you’re trying to say “Have a good weekend!” as you leave on Fridays or how you tell everyone “Happy New Year!” until the end of January)
Grandma, thank you for talking to me every night before I went to bed when I was little, for I don’t think I’d be that great of a talker if it weren’t for you.
Grandpa, thank you for teaching me to have patience and perseverance in order to get anywhere in life.
Thank you for random trips to the beach and mountains where we would have the best tasting Korean BBQ, while enjoying the beautiful nature surrounding us.
Thank you for bringing God into my life, for I would be completely lost without Him.
Thank you for every single one of your prayers that I can’t appreciate enough.
Thank you for being my parents when my actual parents couldn’t be there for me.
Thank you for never giving up on me. I wouldn’t be anywhere
near where I’m at right now if it weren’t for your guys’ patience and support.
Thank you for still taking care of us to this very day. Grandma, you never fail to make sure I come home to a full on home-cooked Korean dinner, and it the most wonderful thing to come home to besides family. And Grandpa, you’re constantly checking on my car and repairing anything that is the least bit off to make sure I’m safely able to drive it.
Most importantly thank you for your undying and unconditional love, for I wouldn’t know what that is without you guys.
Sincerely,
Your granddaughter, Ji Hae Hong (who receives far more than she deserves from you guys)
