To My Brother-In-Law, Thank You For Being The Greatest

God thought that I needed an older brother, so He sent me the greatest brother-in-law EVER!!

God bless my brother-in-law, because this relationship has been through a lot.

My B.I.L. came into my life when I was about as awkward as they come, and I am not quite sure how either of us survived. I was 12 years old and had yet to endure the life-changing power of braces, so I just need to be explicit that this poor man did not have a confident-filled sister-in-law and I was a literal mess.

He has been there for me when no one else was, even my sister when she moved away for a year. He became one of my biggest supporters and my ice cream, particular Dairy Queen Blizzard, partner. He attempted to teach me how to drive stick-shift, but that did not end well. We have fought many times over the craziest of things, and these normally happen when one or both of us in hungry. He also taught me so much about just being a great human.

Nobody will ever take his place. He has showed me what a real man looks like, not only on the outside, but also on the inside. He loves my sister in such a special way and for that, I am beyond thankful. He not only spoils her, but he takes great care of all of the women in his life, even my mom. Wow, there just are not many out there like him.

Many people think that we have a strange relationship because we are so close and we sometimes hangout without even my sister, but he is my God-given brother. He has helped me see the light when it comes to dealing with mean girls and guys who do not deserve me. He has been there for me when I have been sick with my favorite foods and all of my medicines. He has made sure that I have a good relationship with Jesus and a good church to call home. He has made a lasting impact on my life and I do not know how my family was so lucky to have been given him.

It is common for a sister and a brother-in-law to not get along, but I do not just consider him to be that, because he has gone above and beyond to be such an influential man in my life.

B.I.L. stay cool and in case you did not know, I am thankful that you not only married my sister, but you came into my life right when I needed you.

I love you sugarfoot.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
