Look at you, who would have ever thought that you’d actually graduate? You’ve officially made it past the part of your life that’s the “easiest” and you feel like you’re ready to take on the world. I’m so proud of all that you have accomplished in the past 18 years of your life. I have also have been blessed to be by your side and fortunate that you’ve stuck by mine. I can’t believe that we’re both in college now and are bettering ourselves to live the best (or the most lit) life we possibly can. Where did the time go that we’re no longer kids dancing around our rooms to Hannah Montana, pretending to be rock stars?
Keep your fire lit and keep it bright. Don’t lose the passion that you have for life and learning. College won’t be easy, especially being away from home, but you’re tough. Take every day for what it’s worth and try to step outside of your comfort zone. Put yourself out there and make new friends because the Lord knows I can’t take all your constant phone calls. Force yourself to go out on Friday/Saturday nights, and don’t stay in and watch Netflix all the time because your bed may be comfortable but it can get lonely. Watch enough Netflix to tell me some good shows though.
Go to class, do your homework, and make friends with your professors. As much as I want you to go out and a have a good time, your education comes first because we’re smart people…sometimes. Remember that you’re paying a lot of money to go to school and you need a job after you graduate college so, it is important to focus on academics first. Always make a friend in your classes and go to TA hours if you need help. TAs are paid to help you, there is no reason to do poorly.
Know that I love you. Know that I’m always here for you and a phone call away. I’m looking forward to hearing your stories about the petty girls that you’ve met and all the great friends you’ve made. I’m ready to cry with you during finals week when your life seems to be falling apart and I’m ready to laugh with you when life seems to be going great, or you wipe out in the middle of the quad. I know you’ll love college and the new-found life you will have. I’m ready to experience it right there by you.
Don’t forget me. Don’t leave your home life all the way behind. I’m still your best friend whether you like it or not. All your new college friends may seem great but they aren’t as great as me. A few hundred miles is not anything to a lifelong friendship. Think about the great times we’ll have when we’re middle-aged and drinking wine and watching reality TV. Thank you for being my best friend after all these years, and thanks for dealing with my never-ending sass. Congratulations on graduating and for getting into your dream school. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to accomplish in life.
Love you forever and always,
-Dani
