As my little sister graduates high school this upcoming May, I can't help but worry about her. I want to be able to mentally and physically prepare her for her college. I want to be able to tell her everything I experienced as a freshman and everything to expect. College is the best 4 years of your life and every freshman should enjoy them while they can! Of course everyone has their own experiences, but here's a list of the things that I declared most important:
1. Recruitment...
The best and worst week of every freshman girls first semester. No matter how much you try to explain the process nothing compares to the actual experience. The only advice I have is to go in open minded and be yourself. It seems so simple but also so easy to forget.
2. Freshman 15,
It's the real deal!!! There's really no way around this one besides to try and control it the best you can.
3. Study... like actually study.
Personally I never studied in high school and if I did it was nothing like the kind of studying college requires. I learned this the hard way my first semester of college.
4. Never say no to any activity with friends.
Freshman year is all about meeting new people and living it up while you can. This is the year when you can get away with going out and doing whatever you want before classes really start to get hard so take advantage!
5. Go to class.
Make it a habit. There will be many Friday mornings when you think you're on the brink of death but those are just hangovers and they will pass. Missing class will put you behind and that's never good. Even if you don't pay attention in your Friday 8 A.M., at least you're there.
6. Sleep.
You think you're invincible freshman year, but if you have the opportunity to take a nap I highly encourage it. Naps were the only thing that got me through my Freshman year.
These to me are all things I wish I knew going into college. Freshman, take notes and good luck!!
