Dear Grandma,
When I was growing up, our form of communication to each other was through letters. That's right: it was hand-written-with-the-stamp-included, old fashioned letters. From two states away from each other as a kid, I felt so much closer to you because of these letters. And now as an almost college graduate, I still find myself thinking of these letters and how much they meant to me, so I thought it was the most appropriate to write this letter to you to keep up our tradition.
Let me first just say, even at your age of 92, you have proven to have more life, energy, social skills and wine drinking talent than most people, especially me. You never fail to amaze me with your continuous love that you have shown our family. And I thank you for that.
With Thanksgiving weekend having just happened, it has always been about giving thanks and appreciating what we are thankful for. It is no surprise that I can say, I am the most thankful for you. Here are some more "thank you's" that I don't think I can tell you enough.
Thank you for always taking me out for lunch so I can gossip about my life.
Thank you for being interested in my boring and non-exciting life, but acting like I have the most exciting life ever.
Thank you for always letting me have the front seat in the car (it's the little things).
Thank you for giving me plain and simple money for my birthday and the holidays, because honestly money is truly the best gift a college student could ever ask for.
Thank you for always making my trips home worth it.
Thank you for telling me literally ever 10 seconds how pretty I am.
Thank you for being the glue of the family bringing us closer together.
Thank you for always, always, no matter what, having a positive outlook on every bad situation that comes your way.
Thank you for treating my friends like your friends, and giving them same love you give to me.
Thank you for always buying candy (even though you never eat the candy), just to give to me when I come into town.
Thank you for singing the entire Happy Birthday song on the phone when you call me on my birthday every year. I truly do look forward to that every time.
Thank you for always having an infectious smile on your face, because as we know, "When you smile, the whole world will smile with you."
Lastly, thank you for giving me unconditional love and being the best grandma I could ask for.
There are never enough thanks I could give you, but this Thanksgiving season, I am especially thankful that we can be together for another year of feasting, gossiping, football and of course, wine.
You are the one that I look up to you, and if I can be half the person you are today and live as long as you are living, I will be so happy.
I love you more than words can describe,
Your Granddaughter
