A Letter To My 20 Year Old Self

What I've Learned At Age 20

2015 will always be a big year for you. This was the year that you've learned a lot, overcame a lot, and struggled a lot until you were able to find yourself and true happiness. And it's this year, 2015, that will give you the motivation to become a better person for the sake of the new year. While looking back, there are so many things I wished I would've told you back then, but I rounded it up to the 4 important things I would've told you back then.

Don't rush. Period.

2015 was the year that you did A LOT of rushing. You rushed a lot in your personal life (that didn't end well), and you rushed school wise. I wished I told you in the beginning of the year to stay how you were on January 1st. Stay how you were and don't move forward until you were ready. It would've taken days or months.

Don't take the people who love you for granted.

There will be times in this year that you will go through a lot of struggles, and there will be times this year when you will lose yourself. But the one thing you should never lose is the people you grow close with this year. You will meet people that will give you advice and stand with you, so don't take them for granted. They will stay with you and love you for who you are as much as you fear people leaving, so do not take them for granted.

Don't stress over everything.

When things happen, and trust me they will, it's important to keep these two things in mind: 1) Relax. This is also the year your anxiety will be big and bad, like the big bad wolf inside you. So for the sake of your anxiety relax. 2) thing is everything happens for a reason. Again, what you will go through will happen, but it's important to remember everything happens for a reason, and it will lead to who you are now, so prepare yourself, don't stress about what happens, and just breathe because everything is gonna be alright.

- "Remember who you are."

Yes, I used a Disney quote. But as I stated many times, you will struggle. You will have times when you will scream and cry and want to give up so hard. But never forget who you are. You found yourself at the beginning of freshman year in college, and it's important to be who you are and staying true to who you are. Because once you find yourself, you can get through anything and everything.

I'm very proud of how far you've come during the past years, and with 2017 coming very soon, it will leave you with more opportunities to grow.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
