Let's Talk About Bigots, Shall We?

The world today is all about equality, yet you find bigotry in the most unexpected places.

Welcome to the year of 2016! Temperatures are rising, the Seahawks are winning, and organic food is all the rage. Everyone is accepted and considered equal, everyone, that is, except for Christians.

Woah. Yeah I said it. The long-time prejudice of all Christians being hypocritical and judgmental has been ironically reversed as people holding signs that say ALL LIVES MATTER are also so quickly able to scoff at the LIVES of Christians. The same movement to allow all beliefs to enter into the world and "coexist" is also the one that can be quick to eliminate allowing Christians to have their own beliefs. It's perfectly acceptable for someone to stand publicly for the killing of an unborn child (or fetus or egg or whatever you would like to call it depending on your point of view, since those two make it sound 'better'), but the second someone stands against abortion, they are just trying to infringe on a woman's rights and their opinion is so benign that it assuredly needs to be eliminated. Gay marriage is now a huge thing that this country has fought for and won. And Christians are simply not marrying the same sex. Big deal. Yet an intense hatred has formed towards Christians only because they believe in something different. What happened to love wins? Christians aren't saying they don't also love the LGBTQ community; they're just choosing the straight path. Two different beliefs. One very much more accepted than another. Equality, am I right?

I'm not asking for the entire world to magically change every political and religious view that they currently hold. I'd just like to bring to the table that if you want it equal, make it equal. Some can be so ready to fight against a Christian for their relationship with Jesus. I don't get it. It's one thing if what I believe is so detrimentally unfair to everyone that you must take a stand for it, like slavery or the Holocaust. But last time I checked, the Bible says to love everyone like Jesus, unconditionally and equally. But yeah, all Christians are a bunch of bigots.

Bigot. Let's look at that word.

/ˈbiɡət/

noun

  1. a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

Romans 15:7 // Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Matthew 7:1 // Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in you brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

John 6:37 // All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

People!!!! The book we get our good Word out of literally says to love everyone and welcome them no matter what with no judgment. Yeah, we aren't going to agree with each other on every belief. But let's get this very clear : THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TOLERANCE AND CONFORMATION.

Me not completely falling head over heels and changing to a different belief just because you said it was the right way of life does not make me a bigot. It makes me strong in my own beliefs, like you yours. If you can't accept that I also have a different pair of opinions, I'd like to refer you back to the definition of bigot.

I'm done being the pacifist Christian that gets beat up for every single one of my beliefs unless I hide them in every waking moment. I love Jesus first, and I believe in Him. And I love you, even with your different beliefs. So stop pretending that I'm the bigot here.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
