Capricorn: The Best Zodiac Sign

December 21st marked the beginning of the sign of the Capricorn and it will last until January 19th. Usually I don't care much about astrology and zodiac signs, and I know not to take a horoscope too seriously, but since it is officially my birthday month (I was born on January 17th), I figured that it was about time for me to conquer the trend of zodiac signs and horoscopes, and learn a little bit about what supposedly makes me, me.

According to izodiacsigns.com, a Capricorn's greatest strength is "[his/her] ambition, discipline and patience. With their ability to plan ahead and think of all necessary steps in their chase for a certain goal, they are often successful in their career path." Being a senior in college and dealing with the reality of adulthood in a few short months can be pretty frightening since the future is unknown, and reading that Capricorns are often successful in their future endeavors offered me the slightest of comfort and a glimmer of hope; sometimes even if you don't believe in the fundamentals a particular practice, their words of 'wisdom' can hold a certain amount of truth or encouragement for the bliss/turmoil of your life.

As I continued my research of my Zodiac sign, I learned materialistic things like our stone is Garnet (not really my color...), or our ruler is Saturn (whatever that means), or we are best compatible with Taurus (helloooo David Beckham) and Virgo (R.I.P. M.J.), but we are best fitted for marriage with Cancer (I do, Milo Ventimiglia!). But most importantly, within my research I had to come to terms with the weaknesses of the Capricorn. Destined to dislike everything at some point (izodiacsigns.com) Capricorns, "...are masters when they need to prove that they are right" (izodiacsigns.com), which becomes an opponent to our strong family values; creating the perception that Capricorn's believe that they are condescending know-it-all's. When stumbling upon this information, I couldn't help but find myself hesitantly agreeing with these accusations towards a Capricorn's weaknesses; I suppose sometimes us Capricorn's can get carried away with the bigger picture...

Since I was born on the 17th of January--that's two days before the start of Aquarius--I am considered to be born "on the cusp". Being born "on the cusp" means that since I "...was born within a few days of the Sun's move from one zodiac sign to the next, this means that [I was] born 'on the cusp,' and [I'll] feel the influence from both zodiac signs" (tarot.com). That means that along with a Capricorn's sense of responsibility, discipline, and self-control, I am also responsive to an Aquarius' sense of being uncompromising, temperamental, and run from expressing emotions--that's a lot of personality traits for one person to deal with!

All in all, it was a lot of fun to delve into astrology and learn about my specific zodiac sign--or in this case, signs! Even if you don't fully believe or agree with it, I think that it's important to educate yourself about as many topics that you are unfamiliar with as you can! Some of the information that I came across surprisingly explained a lot of my personality and tendencies...so don't knock it until you try it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
