6 Steps On How To Halloween

Halloween has always been a big holiday in my family. Ever since I was a little girl, I grew up with an insane amount of decorations around the house, an unlimited supply of costumes, and the opportunity to be whatever I wanted. If you’re really curious how insane Halloween was at my house, I’ll give you a little mental picture. My house had at least 5 of the huge blow up spiders or gargoyles or ghost just in our front yard. Then we had the walkway up to our front door lined with lighted miniature skulls on sticks. The horror didn’t stop there though. Once you made it through the terrifying walkway, we had a wonderful Scream figure hanging on our door that would either A) start screaming, or B) laugh maniacally. If you didn’t at least kinda pee your pants at our front door, you’re lying. To top it off, one year we had a haunted house in our garage that the trick or treaters could venture into. My family is VERY into Halloween, so I’ve grown up with some pretty high expectations of what halloween should look like. Since I have enough Halloween spirit go around, I’ll share a few tips on how to do it right.

Step 1

Go out and get a costume! Buy one or make your own! You can be whatever your little heart desires. There are so many choices like a superhero, cow, flapper, princess, Scooby-Doo and the Gang, alien, and the classic cat. Personally I’m that girl who goes out dressed as a cow, because it’s warm, funny, and you won't believe how many compliments you get dressed up as a cow.

Step 2

DECORATE!! Get some purple lights to string outside or in your home, combined with blow up gargoyles and skulls on sticks. Don't forget about the fake spider webs and a witch's cauldron to store candy in!

Step 3

Go to a haunted house. October is a spooky month, so why not go get your pants scared off with some of your friends! People with chainsaws and creepy masks are what really make Halloween, right?

Step 4

Watch all the Disney Halloween movies. You're not doing Halloween right if you don't watch "Hocus Pocus" at least once in October. That movie really knows how to “Put a spell on you”!

Step 5

Carve a Pumpkin. Head out to your favorite pumpkin patch and enjoy some hot apple cider, hayrack rides, and finding the perfect pumpkin to etch a design into. Don't forget to bake the pumpkin seeds and drown them in spices after you gut your pumpkin! They make for a great snack!

Step 6

Go Trick or Treating. I don’t care how old you are, free candy is actually the best thing ever. If you don't want to go house to house, you can always stay in and hand out the candy… While occasionally eating from your stash.

Follow these steps, and you're sure to have a spooky Halloween!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
