You enter an argument and it's slowly escalating. You try and try to get the person to see it your way, but you can't.
The best way to end this situation is to agree to disagree.
Although this is the best method to end an argument, it is the hardest way to end one. This is because we often want to sway the other person to see a situation in our eyes.
The greatest example of this is discussions about politics.
When issues come up between people from different political parties, it's hard to get the other person to understand where that person is coming from.
I'm sure you can talk about abortion or immigration with someone of the opposite political party for hours--it's best to end these situations by saying, "Let's agree to disagree."
I've had to use this many times because I like to be knowledgeable about what is going on in politics and the news. I don't like talking about things I am not sure about, or don't know much about, but I have no problem admitting when I don't know.
This makes for interesting conversation with others, because I like listening to different opinions and perspectives to fully grasp an issue.
But when I know my stance on something, I stick to it. When these issues come up in conversation, I often stop the conversation with "agreeing to disagree" because I know I could go on and on for a while.
I personally know how hard it can be to reach this agreement, but I know it is the only way to leave a conversation without getting worked up over something that isn't that important.
When in conversations with the people close to you, use the line "Let's agree to disagree," so you don't have to get into a sticky situation with someone important to you.
It's important to know that if we didn't differ on opinions and perspectives, the world would not be the way it is--it would be much less interesting. We all have different opinions so we can see different sides of a situation.
So now with this in mind, keep your relationships in a better condition with this phrase: "Let's agree to disagree."
