Let Love Be Genuine

Many of us love 'The Bachelor'... but is the "love" we see on the show genuine?

Let Love Be Genuine

It's that time again, ladies! The time we all anticipate on Monday nights where we obsess over crying girls, drama, a dreamboat guy, and a bunch of red roses. That's right, it's time for a new season of "The Bachelor."

Even though I am an avid fan of the show, I've honestly never understood why the plot line has been so widely accepted and popular. I admit that I'm always so excited to gather up with some gal pals or even just myself and my laptop screen and await the elegant, bedazzling dresses on some of the most gorgeous girls to file out of the limos on the season premiere night. I get pulled into wondering who will win the first impression rose, what the one-on-one and group dates will be like, and of course, who will end up with the most treasured final rose.

If I'm honest, this show is absolutely ridiculous. Who would think it's a good idea to date about 25 girls at once in hopes that one of them will stick around and end up being your wife? I have to say I give those girls some props because I wouldn't last long at all.

I think in this generation that we've become so accustomed to "dating around." Everyone has their own opinions on dating, but the question I have to ask is what is the purpose of dating someone? For me, if the answer isn't in hopes of marriage, I don't see the point of it.

So sure, whoever the lucky Bachelor is each season dates each girl anticipating that one of them will be his future spouse, but I have wondered what good it would do to pick and choose between several women at the same time. To me, this "dating around" is almost like practicing for divorce. We start to date someone and then realize that we really like them, or even fall in love. When life gets hard or the initial excitement of dating wears off, we start to become disinterested or even bored. So we break up and move on and often start the same routine with the next person.

I'm not saying we should never date anyone until it's "the one." Even though I hate to admit that I sound like my mom, her advice on dating with wisdom is so crucial. I'd much rather endure the wilderness that is singleness than have my heart broken to pieces because I married someone who couldn't make it to forever with me. Even though it's said a lot, guarding your heart when deciding to date someone is so true.

The first part of Romans 12:9 says, "Let love be genuine." Even though this is such a simple verse, I think it has so much truth and power to it. We often throw around the word "love." For instance, I love my friends. I love Chick-fil-A. I love this shirt. Sure, we may really love our friends and we may truly love Chick-fil-A. But, I think it's so important that we check what we say we love. Yes, we should love much but let it be so truly genuine.

So ladies, enjoy your excitement of "The Bachelor." Get pumped for the season finale when he hands over that final rose. Just remember the realities of dating someone, knowing that our true love is genuine and meant to be forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
