Let's admit it: we all love a good book, and we also love to cry sometimes. Just taking some time to let go of all of those negative emotions and let yourself be vulnerable. If your actual life isn't enough to make you cry, then here are four young adult novels that sure will.
1. If I Stay, By: Gayle Forman
Every single book Gayle Forman has ever written is a masterpiece, and this is no exception. A sorrowful tale about love, loss, and life, this book will absolutely break your heart. The story is about a girl named Mia, her boyfriend Adam, her family, and their lives before and after a deadly car crash. This book touches your very soul, and makes you thankful for everyone around you; I definitely recommend it.
2. The Catastrophic History of You and Me By: Jess Rothenberg
This book is yet another masterpiece in my library. An intricate story about life before and after death, this book follows the story of a young woman named Brie, who dies of a broken heart (no joke), after her beloved boyfriend Jacob breaks up with her. Once she's in the afterlife, she must go through the 5 stages of grief and evaluate her entire life, and with the help of her new friend Patrick, she just might be able to reach acceptance.
3. The Book Thief By: Markus Zusak
This is a hauntingly beautiful story, written in the point of view of death himself. A very young girl named Liesel Meminger is put into a foster home in Nazi Germany. She goes about her daily life, playing with her friend Rudy, and growing up, until one day her foster parents bring a jewish man named Max into their home. She also begins stealing books from Nazi book burnings, making her the book thief. Max, and the books both change Liesel forever, as she struggles to live in a world full of darkness.
4. Life As We Knew It By: Susan Beth Pfeffer
This is a classic apocalypse story about a family's struggle to survive after a natural disaster changes their lives forever. This book will make you appreciate the life you have now, the people around you, and really really put everything into perspective.
