Princess 2015 Redesign

As a young girl the Disney Princesses always intrigued me. The dresses, the crowns, the castles, and the princes are what childhood fantasies are made of for any little girl. However, its not the glass slippers or the enchanted roses that make these stories spectacular, but rather the valuable life lessons shared that every child deserves to learn and know growing up. Here are some of the important lessons that the Disney Princesses have shared with us:

1. Kindness is greater than hate – Snow White

Snow White shows us a beautiful example of how important it is to be kind. Even the Evil Queen did not have enough power to defeat her kind heart.

2. Others cannot define you – Mulan

Be who you are and be proud of who you are. Mulan shows us that it’s okay to be different and that the only person who can define you, is yourself.

3. Don’t be afraid to venture out of your comfort zone – Rapunzel

It can be uncomfortable straying away from the norm, but a little discomfort couldn’t stop Rapunzel from exploring the unknown and having the time of her life.

4. Your dreams are not too great to achieve – Tiana

If you work hard and believe in yourself, then you can achieve any goal. All your dreams are in reach if you work hard for them.

5. A little love can change the world – Elsa

Elsa was able to thaw all of Arendelle with just a little love. What a great portrayal of how our world can be changed starting with just a little bit of love.

6. Always be brave – Merida

Sometimes scary situations can seem too great for us to handle but Merida shows us that any person can be brave, no matter how old they are.

7. Inner beauty is more important than outer beauty – Belle

Belle saw the beauty within even though nobody else could see past the Beast’s outward appearance. Once she did, she met an amazing man, proving that outward appearance is much less important than what’s inside.

8. Stand up for what’s right – Pocahontas

It’s okay to go against a majority opinion when you know what’s right. Pocahontas stood up for what she believed in and was ultimately able to connect two communities.

9. Attitude is everything – Cinderella

Cinderella taught us how to continue to have a good attitude even in tough times. In the end, a good attitude triumphs above all.

10. Keep exploring – Ariel

There are so many new places and great opportunities to be explored so it’s okay to be a little curious.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
