You are a liar if you say you don't enjoy Grey's Anatomy. After hearing about it for years, I finally started watching it. I went on a Netflix binge this past summer and ended up finishing all 11 seasons in a single month (eventful, I know).
Even most guys I know admit to watching the show, mainly because their moms watched it when they were little, but still. I immediately got hooked. Shonda Rhimes is a genius. Every character in the show has taught me at least one thing.
1. It's okay to not be okay.
I don't know about you, but I cry 30 out of the 43 minutes of an episode of Grey's. Whether it be Grey, Yang, Webber or even Bailey - they know where I'm coming from. The emotional outbreaks in the show are what make it the best part.
2. Don't let a guy de-value you.
It is easy to get ahead of ourselves when talking to a guy we really like. Sometimes us girls put in more effort than we should, and expect guys to do the same. Just know how much you are worth when going into it all. You are more than what some boy you met out one time thinks of you.
3. Push yourself.
Just like all the new residents, we have times where we think we can't go on. Even the little things in life can be difficult - you just have to push yourself. If they can work their way up to Chief of Surgery, you can get out of bed today.
4. When you find someone you love, hold onto them.
I can't even begin to name all of the people who had relationships in Grey's, but when you find someone like Grey and Shepherd (even with the ups and downs) - stick with them. Sometimes the people you argue with the most end up being the ones that are worth it.
5. Always take a chance.
You're probably not going to be making a life-threatening decision and performing surgery on anyone soon, but always take a risk. For the most part (maybe, hopefully) it will turn out for the best.
Shonda Rhimes, thank you for season 12. I am already enjoying season 13!
