Lessons I Learned From Frat Parties
Total Sorority Move

I firmly believe there are endless rules you must set for yourself when attending fraternity parties. Some of them may seem like common sense while others may not seem necessary at all. However, in order to prevent any accidents or heart breaks from occurring, here are some simple precautions:

Know which frat party you are at.

You should always know the name of the fraternity whose party you will be attending. It may be safe to tell a few of your friends, not going to the party, the exact address you will be at. Know the frat.

Don’t put your drink down.

You NEVER know when someone may try to pour something extra into your drink. In the case that you do put your drink down, immediately get a new one. You never know what could have happened to that cup while you stepped away.

Pee with a friend, always.

Especially when you are around an unfamiliar group of people, having a friend accompany you to the bathroom is always a smart choice. This will definitely help you stay in contact with the people you are staying with at the party. This way, you will never lose your friend and your friend will never lose you.

Dress the theme, but don’t look sloppy.

The majority of these fraternity parties have a theme that they want you to follow. Getting dressed up for the theme is super cute and exciting, just make sure you look put together.

Wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind throwing away.

There are way too many sloppy drunks at parties to not take into consideration when planning your outfit. Never wear something you would be upset about ruining or losing. Play it safe and save that $40 top for a different occasion.

Take it easy with drinking games.

Sometimes the hype for drinking games overpowers and convinces you that you are ready for five rounds of flip cup when in reality, you feel good after one. You never know how hard those games may hit you so, pace yourself.

Watch your step.

You may be so excited walking through this party attempting to talk to everyone and meet new people when you suddenly step in mud or even worse, vomit.

Don’t leave the party without telling your friends first.

You may want to leave before your friends are ready. However, if you’re leaving with someone else that you did not come with, you should check in with your friends. It is a smart idea to make them aware of who you’re leaving with.

Mind the pictures.

Be careful with the pictures you may be caught in the background of. Watch the red solo cups in your photos, they won’t do you any good.

Be cautious of your surroundings.

Always pay attention to who and what is around you. Stay with your friends and if you want to separate, have a designated meeting spot. Besides that, enjoy and have fun!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
