6 Things I Learned After Going to 10 Barry’s Bootcamp Classes

My actual dilemma: eat good food and be content OR forego the food and look like a real snacc?

This past summer, I really wanted to challenge myself to get into shape, so I impulsively bought a 12-class membership to Barry's Bootcamp, which is a studio focused on HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training). Let me tell you, I really have a love and hate relationship with Barry's.

1. If you have the equipment, you’re only paying for motivation

Giphy

Honestly, you can probably run and do the exercises at home or at the gym, but you just need to learn how to motivate yourself.

2. Don’t worry about how fast other people are going

Giphy

When I first started, I kept looking at how fast other people were going. But, those people may have been going for a longer time than me, or they may be more fit than me. Don't compare yourself to other people, and just go at your own pace.

3. If you think sprinting for 30 seconds straight is easy, then you got another thing coming

Giphy

Instructor: "It's only 30 seconds! You can do this!"

Me: *literally about to fall off the treadmill after 15 seconds*

4. Consume protein after every class

Giphy

I made the mistake of foregoing a protein shake after class once, and wow. I was SO SORE for the next two days. Don't make this rookie mistake.

5. If your instructor is making you feel bad about yourself, DROP HIM/HER

Giphy

When one of the instructors was giving me crap for not going fast enough, I was like, "Bye!" It's my body and my pace. I know my body the best! Don't tell me to push harder when I KNOW that it'll only hurt me more.

6. You just gotta do it! Dedication is key

Giphy

Every morning/night is such a struggle because, some days, I really just don't want to go. But every time I do go, I feel significantly better and more accomplished. Honestly, though, it's your call!

I still have a few more classes left, but honestly, I don't think I will purchase another membership. If you plan on going or are currently going, good for you!! After this membership ends, bye Barry's!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
