College is a definitely a place where you grow up. You learn more about yourself, meet new people, and have new experiences. It's also a place to make mistakes and to learn. There are so many lessons you learn along the way though and here are just a few of them.

You will find out who your friends are.

Things will happen to you where you need your friends to help you through. Friends are there to listen and help you get back on your feet again. They are the people that are never more than a text or phone call away and can make you smile when you're close to crying.

You will grow apart from people you were friends with in high school.

When you graduate you thought that you would still see your friends all the time and nothing would change, even though you were going to different schools. In reality, there are people who sat at your lunch table that you might have only seen once since graduation. It's OK that you grow apart.

Time goes by to fast.

One day you will be at freshman orientation. A short time later you will be watching your friends older friends graduate. Then you will notice your graduation date is already online. It's scary, so take every moment and take it for what it's worth. College is the best days of your life.

You will figure it out.

Even in the weeks where you are drained in work, you will pull through. There will be times where you think things won't work out but they always will. Sometimes not exactly as planned but, in the end it will be OK.

Family is important.

When you are away at college, your family actually does miss you. They appreciate when you call or come home for a weekend. And unfortunately as you get older, some your family passes away, so you should value every minute with them.

Make the most of every opportunity.

Apply for that internship you don't think you are going to get, go to a guest speaker that teaches you more about the world. Join a club or a team and make new friends. Take a chance on talking to that guy or girl, they might end up being perfect. College is full of so many opportunities and you should never have to ask yourself what if?

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
