Forget a ritzy Gatsby style party, or a fast lane Jordan Belfort lifestyle, Leonardo DiCaprio is using his money for good. The Oscar-nominated actor is a very concerned environmental activist and has decided to put a bulk of his fortune to the greater good.
It was announced Tuesday that Leonardo DiCaprio is pledging to give $15 million to many trusted charities that help with the preservation of our world and its environment. Leonardo DiCaprio is so much more than an actor, he is a true environmental activist. The crazy thing is that this isn’t his first time donating $15 million toward environmental causes. He donated roughly $15 million to the same cause over the summer of 2015.

DiCaprio was recently in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum where he accepted the Crystal Award for “improving the state of the world.” Honestly, in my opinion, all he has to do is flash that gorgeous smile of his to “improve the state of the world." Just kidding … but not really.
We should all be concerned about the state of the environment, or at least try to educate ourselves on the topic. When DiCaprio accepted the award he made a speech where he stated, “we simply cannot afford to allow the corporate greed of the coal, oil and gas industries to determine the future of humanity.” Well said Leo, well said.

After logging onto DiCaprio’s foundation website, I found that he is involved in over 70 projects in 40+ countries over five oceans and is working with more than 65 partners. Leo deserves a gold star for sure. Several of his current projects include saving ’30 Hills’ in Sumatra (which is the largest remaining area of lowland tropical rainforest), protecting the wild tigers in Nepal and defending Ivindo National Park through the Elephant Crisis Fund.
Even though this is an extremely generous deed, Leonardo DiCaprio isn’t the only celebrity donating to environmental causes. Mark Zuckerburg also donated just about all of his wealth from Facebook, Inc. to environmental causes just a few months ago. According to Dicaprio, less than 3 percent of all philanthropic giving goes towards “defending the planet.”
I guess we have a lot to thank Leonardo DiCaprio for. First and foremost, for entertaining us over the years and being so easy on the eyes, and now of course for helping us save and protect the world around us. You deserve that Oscar for more reasons than one, Leo.
Thanks Leo!
