Leaving Your Friends for College

Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Leaving Your Friends for College

In high school, I never realized how lucky I was to see my friends everyday. Sure, they may have skipped some days here and there but I never went more than a day without seeing them. Leaving for college was challenging because I knew that wasn't the case anymore and simply couldn't happen. Leaving some of your best friends was one of the hardest things to deal with my freshmen year of college and even as a sophomore it's still difficult. I was fortunate enough to go to the same college as my best friend since pre-school (which I am thankful for everyday) but it was still hard to leave my other friends. So here are five things everyone experiences going to a different college than your friends.

1. Scheduled hang out times

In high school you never really had to plan to see each other, it just happened everyday and you that for granted. In college, you have to kind of know your friend's schedule and figure out the best time to call or facetime them. This can be challenging if you have opposite schedules but you always make it work out even if it means staying up later because it's so worth it.

2. Texting

It's basically impossible to facetime or call each other every day because you're both really busy. Because of this, some of your texts to each other will be paragraphs long explaining something that just happened in FULL detail. They weren't there, but you give them enough details so that they basically could have been. Conversely, sometimes you will simply not have the capability to text them paragraphs because class in about to start and texts are very short sentences "Hi, can't talk now, class"

3. Different breaks

Almost every college has a different break cycle and you breaks typically won't line up perfectly. But if you're lucky they'll be a couple days that overlap and you live for that. It may not be the longest time to spend together but two days is better than nothing. There is nothing better than a break from school and finally getting reunited!

4. Leaving again

Saying good-bye after you hung out for basically two days straight is difficult and you get sad all over again. Going back to school when you just wished you had one more day to spend with your friends is difficult, but you have the pictures to commemorate the fun times.

5. Visiting their schools is the best

Spending a weekend at each other's schools is one of my favorite things about going to different colleges. I love visiting and seeing where they go to school and putting a location to the stories they tell about the school. Plus when you go visit you get to spend time with them and let's face it there's nothing better than that.

Going to different college's than your friends is difficult, but the best thing is knowing that distance hasn't changed much. At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you haven't seen them for a month or longer, what matters is that you still love each other and would do anything for them!

To my friend's at different schools, I cannot wait to see you soon! xoxo

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
