How Leaving For College My Junior Year Is Different From My Freshman Year

Going into this year I have a new perspective.

How Leaving For College My Junior Year Is Different From My Freshman Year
@uncpembroke

Driving down to move into college was nerve racking, yet so exciting. I remember thinking how cute my room would be and how I couldn't wait to set it up. I remember being so excited because I was lucky enough I got to room with one of my best friends. Then I started thinking about my new team and how I hoped my teammates would like me and wondering if we would be close. A lot rushed through my mind in that two-hour drive. Then I started getting nervous thinking about juggling classes and softball. Basically had a mini meltdown just on the way to school. I hadn't even started yet and I was freaking out. That was freshman year....

Comparing myself now I think how silly I was being. I'm going into my junior year and I love school so much and my teammates are my best friends. It's incredible to see how much you change just in two years. Now, believe me, I don't think I'm at my limit of changing. I'm sure I still have much more to do but I feel like I really am a different person than when I started two years ago. I came in thinking I knew what I wanted to do for a career for the rest of my life... Who was I kidding? I've changed my major twice. That's just one example of how I've changed but for one second think about how much you change. I go back to school on Sunday and I couldn't be more excited. I can't wait to get back into classes, see my friends and get back on the grind with my teammates. When I go back home now I just feel like I'm visiting. I don't really feel like it's home. Although when my mom reads this, that might break her heart but I know I'm not the only one. When I go home it takes a little getting used to my parents asking me where I'm going haha. It's weird, it's like I've built my own little life at school. I do my own thing, have my own schedule, and honestly it's kind of nice. It's just strange how things change so much while you're in school.

I guess what I'm trying to say is you grow up a lot. You learn how to take care of things on your own and you figure things out. Now I'm not saying I don't call my mom for help here and there because trust me, I do all the time. Going to school is so important because it helps you find yourself. I still have a lot of growing up to do but I guess you could say the main difference between heading off to school my junior year and my freshman year is that I'm more driven because my goals are so close. I'm not scared and I'm excited for my journey because I know it will help me grow and find myself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
