Today there are too many young adults that do not know how to adult. All over social media we see the term, “#Adulting”, and it really has to make the older generations laugh. Going to the grocery store your first week of college and spending $100 on less than a week of food is not being an adult. It is simply going out and doing something as spontaneously as you did in high school.
Younger generations need to learn how to be adults and quick before it is too late and they may never catch up in the real world. It is the responsibility of the older generations to make young adults learn to do adult things before they are out of the nest. Simple objectives can cause young adults to learn how to, “adult” before they leave their houses and join society. Simple tasks such as going to the grocery store with a list instead of shopping with your stomach, setting up a bank account and doing simple household chore are great examples of training to be an adult.
There are lessons to be learned at a younger age that are just as important as the school work that is done in K-12 districts. Young adults need to learn how to do things for themselves. Some of these tasks are as simple as making a doctor’s appointment. Some young adults are forced to do this at a young age and at the time they may be mad for having, they wind up being thankful for learning the simple task and being able to do it into adulthood without sounding like a child on the phone.
Throughout life there are many different things that will come up and you will not be able to handle them without some degree of help. However, there is a responsibility to be had of the older generations to not baby the younger generations and make them learn how to be adults.
Although I have not covered all of the simple life lessons that need to be learned by the younger generation I feel that I have covered enough to get the point across. If the United States continues to baby their children we will have a country full of fully dependent kids that will not know how to do simple tasks and will be a burden to society.
