If you're a person who has used any kind of social media in the past week, chances are you've seen the video of the woman in her car, cracking up at the Chewbacca mask she bought for herself. It seemed like it was pretty impossible to avoid the post, as about half of my friends on Facebook shared it and half the people I follow on Twitter retweeted it. If you haven't gotten around to watching it, here's the link to check it out for yourself.
It's just about the cutest thing in the world, right? She's so happy!
One of the best things about this video is that it's one of the few that has almost no negative feedback. If you look through the comments, there's no one being nasty to this woman or trying to make her feel bad about being so joyful over her Wookiee mask. It's mainly people thanking her for bringing a little bit of light into their day, which is such a different response than what so many positive posts on the Internet get every day. It is incredibly refreshing to see positivity circulating through social media. It's no secret that there are a lot of negative things going on, and while those things shouldn't be ignored or forgotten, it's also really nice to have a break from all the bad things going on in the world. That is exactly what the woman in this video, Candace Payne, did for people on Thursday.
Something everyone could learn from Payne is to take joy in the little things in life. She bought herself a mask, completely cracked up, and loved every minute of wearing it. She explicitly said that the mask was for her, not for her kids, even though she would most likely end up sharing it with them. Doing something for your own joy can really pay off, and in Payne's case, it paid off by not only make herself happy, but by bringing happiness to others across the World Wide Web.
Another lesson to be learned from Payne is to not take yourself too seriously. It's easy to realize while watching this video that her laugh is absolutely infectious. What's even better is that she's not laughing at anyone in particular. She's laughing at herself in an awesome Chewbacca mask. Seriously, have you ever seen someone so excited over anything like this? She took "treat yo' self" to the best level.
It's just the greatest. It would be amazing to see more people taking a page out of Candace Payne's book. It could lead to more happiness, confidence and goofy-ness more often. Maybe then, there would be more positive posts circulating and making people's day like this one.
