Stop Feeling Guilty About Those "Lazy Day" Blues

When there is no motivation to be found, all hope shouldn't be lost.

We all have been through those days where all we want to do is sleep and lounge around the house all day. All of us.

Every single one of us has been there. I've been there, you've been there, President Obama has been there, Harry Styles has been there, we have all inevitably had those days where nothing is going to get done and that's just the way that it is.

Now, if you're like me, you would agree that these days are the worst because you continually know what you should be doing at that very minute, but instead, you're reading an Odyssey article, or watching a Buzzfeed video (they're addicting), or refreshing Instagram, even though the app was open literally two minutes ago and you know for a fact no one has posted within those couple of minutes.

And while some articles may tell you how to kick those horrible blues, I am here to tell you that sometimes, those days are completely necessary. Sometimes life is just too much to take in and we need a breather. A little day of nothing to remind us that what we're doing is worth it, but we still need to recharge a little.

When you're down on yourself during these days, here are some pep talks as to why these days are just needed sometimes

1. No matter what you work on during these days will not reflect your best work.

You know that you're just going to give only half the effort you know you're capable of on these days, so why waste your time working on something you probably (definitely) will start over tomorrow, and instead watch another episode of "Grey's Anatomy" (Patrick Dempsey is the cure for everything, I promise)

2. Sleep is good.

I can guarantee you that the amount of sleep you usually get is very low and catching up on sleep is good for you. Listen to your mom, and use this day to take a few cat naps throughout the day or just sleep in until noon. No harm in refueling your body.

3. Doing nothing does not mean you are lazy or lonely.

We all do that thing where we check Snapchat stories as we're laying on the couch and see everyone doing something with their friends or family and you just end up feeling extremely unproductive and lonely. Hey, quit that. You're allowed a day to yourself. No one, especially you, should be thinking less of yourself for not hanging out with someone that day or deciding to lay around and enjoy your alone time. You are not lazy for watching TV instead of going out to lunch with friends. You are taking time for yourself and honestly, everyone needs that.

4. You time is always a good time.

One of the most important things anyone will ever tell you to do for your health is to give yourself time to be with, well, you. In the end, you're all you will always have and that alone should make you want to give yourself time to recharge. Why not enjoy your time by yourself instead of beating yourself up over not being out and about? It's not helping anyone. Definitely not you. Enjoy your time and do what makes you happy that day. Take a bath. Watch your favorite TV show. Bake. Whatever.

5. Tomorrow is a new day.

No matter how horrible you still may feel about lounging around all day, just remember that tomorrow will bring new opportunities and possibilities for you. One day to yourself will not destroy you, your grades, your future, etc. You're going to be just fine. Go to bed and get ready for the next day to come. It's going to be great.

Never forget that you are not obligated to do anything that you do not want to do. You are not obligated to always be busy doing something everyday. You also do not need to be constantly working. Your life is yours.

Unless, you have a paper to write or a test to study for.

Then you should be doing that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
