Halloween week is here. The décor is up. You’ve picked out your costume. You have pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns out front. The candy bowls you have for “trick-or-treaters” are half empty already…(they don’t need all of it, right? You're just helping to prevent childhood obesity…). Now, all you have left to do to get in the Halloween spirit is to watch movies that will traumatize you.
Below are 13 of the best scary movies of all time. Some are classic, some are new, some have ghosts that will jump out at you. Some have scarred me for life, some have freaks that will kill you with a knife...they all are different, yet you’ll cry and you'll scream -- just remember when you get scared, to look at this meme.
Seriously, it'll help.
And now, your 13 favorite adrenaline-inducing films:
1. "The Sixth Sense"
“I see dead people.”
This image is iconic. And that line is even more so. This movie is scary, but don’t watch it for the scare factor. Gore and anything that keeps you on the edge of your seat is great and all, but the plot, the story, the acting, the infamous plot twist, make this one of the best “scary” movies of all time.
2. "The Exorcist"
Now this one is old. This is the original exorcist film, not one of the dozens of remakes that have tried to reproduce the magic. Although the special effects reflect it’s 1973 debut, the little girl will still scare the s*** out of you. It gets pretty scary, vulgar, and just plain weird. My mom saw this when she was 15 and couldn’t sleep for a week.
3. "The Shining"
“Heeeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!”
Jack Nicholson is truly terrifying in this classic piece of horror cinema. This legend brought one of the most iconic scary movie moments of all time to life. Watch a possessed Jack try to kill his family with an ax in an abandoned hotel.
4. "Rosemary's Baby"
Nothing is more terrifying for a mother than believing her baby is possessed. Nothing...except for believing she is carrying Satan's child.
5. "A Nightmare on Elm Street"
Nightmares aren’t real. They can’t hurt you.
Or can they?
6. "Psycho"
Family problems can create troubling psychological issues. This secretary learns that first hand when she walks right into one of the most twisted family dynamics of all time. The young man who checks her into his family’s motel has mommy issues like you wouldn't believe. Watch the famous work of Alfred Hitchcock this Halloween.
7. "Silence of the Lambs"
One good thing about today's society is that we don't usually have to worry about getting eaten by wild animals. Unless the animal you come across is a human cannibal. Like Dr. Hannibal Lector. Watch Jodie Foster dissect his brain to try and solve a classified FBI case. And not become his dinner.
8. "The Blair Witch Project"
You’re out in the woods with a video camera, two friends, and the legend of a witch who lurks there. You will feel like you’re physically in these haunting woods with the handheld camera feel. So, is she out there? Go find out.
9. "The Conjuring"
This movie is truly terrifying. Truly. Be prepared. An evil presence lingers on the property the Perron family has just moved onto. The only people who can help this family of seven survive are Lorraine and Ed Warren, paranormal investigators hesitant to get back in the game.
10. "Insidious"
A possessed little boy is taken deep into a parallel world full of ghosts and evil spirits. Can his parents go in and save him before it’s too late?
11. "Paranormal Activity"
Enough said.
12. "IT"
If you didn’t have a fear of clowns before, you will now. Based on Stephen King’s famous book, this movie follows a demon and a group of friends who encountered it 30 years ago. And now, “IT”’s back.
13. "Halloween"
A young boy gets his first taste of murder on the last day of October. And he liked it. Michael Myers is coming for you. This Halloween. Watch the first installment in what became one of the best known movie franchises of all time.
Enjoy these 13 films but make sure you lock your doors, grab a blanket, and don’t forget the Holy Water, too.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
