Simply an appreciation post to all the Latinx influences in my life. Those who through music, or television have set a lasting impact. They have shown no shame in their roots and have instilled in me the knowledge, the power and resilience to be both Latinx and "American" (North American, that is).Regardless of their content outreach, and in no particular order, these are the top Latinx artists, I absolutely love.
1. Jennifer Lopez
With out a doubt the most successful Latina to date. She's a singer, actress, dancer, fashion designer, author, and producer. Her hustle is one to admire.
2. Enrique Iglesias
Everyone's childhood crush; I mean come on, look at that face.
3. Shakira
One of the most admirable and humble celebrities to date. Any fan can appreciate her dedication to producing all her music in both Spanish and English. Along with that no once can pull off Both sexy and elegant, like Shakira.
4. Adriana Lima
Best known for her Victoria Secret modeling, this Brazilian beauty graces us with her face.
5. Andrea Navedo
Mostly known for her role as "Xo" in Jane the Virgin. Andrea interacts with her fans on a daily basis, something not common in most celebrities. Navedo is also now a part of a pivotal show portraying the Latinx community, an overall influential woman, Navedo does not get enough credit.
6. Gabriel Iglesias (No, not Enrique's brother)
Fluffy and his stand-up comedy without a doubt got me through those ruff days.
7. Curly Velasquez
You may know him from Buzzfeed. Curly is so unashamed and undoubtedly himself, he portrays the latinx community with such pride and confidence, that I could only wish for.
8. Ronaldinho
A soccer (fútbol) fan fave that can literally be #goals
9. America Ferrera
"Gotta kick it up" ring a bell? Yeah, absolutely loved...and as about as much as any Latin portrayal of anything that I'll get out of Disney.
10. last but certainly not least, the ultimate Queen SELENA QUINTANILLA.
I mean do I really even need to explain this one? Paving the way for Latina women, advocating for body positivity way before it was a "thing" and of course her music, are all only part of the legacy she left behind. #RIP
