Somehow, August has snuck up and pounced, leaving us stunned with the realization that school is starting in only a few weeks! Now, before you decide to crawl into a nest of blankets and mope about all the homework that will be assigned, take advantage of the sunshine and freedom before real life comes back to get you. Below, you will find 11 spectacular activities to help jump start that process!

1. Go float a river.

There are approximately 250,000 rivers in America, so don't you tell me that there aren't any near you! Where there's a will, there's a way! And besides, if this doesn't look relaxing...well, you're wrong.

2. Get your tan on.

Too soon, winter will come and dash away any hope of continuing to have bronze skin from September to June. This year, be sure to suck in all those golden rays to make your skin as vibrant as ever--maybe your skin will even match with the fall colors in fashion!

3. Read a book.

Really! Just one -- it'll help keep your brain from going to slush like that shaved ice that you've been eating constantly this summer (or was that just me?).

4. Camp in the great outdoors.

There's nothing like burnt food and mosquitoes, right? RIGHT? Just kidding, it's not all that bad. There are also s'mores, and neat things like nature. Isn't that neat?

5. Take one last beach trip.

This is mostly for those that don't have beautiful beaches right next to your city, or if your beaches are mostly cold year-round (shout out to the Oregon coast!). Have a final dance party, show off that beach body, drink an ice-cold lemonade! The sky's the limit (and/or the giant breakers--your choice).

6. Marathon your favorite tv show.

This is my favorite form of procrastination: "If I finish all these episodes now, then I can't watch them on the due date of my paper. I'm actually just being more productive right now." This is a lie. So, why not marathon everything before you have to procrastinate?

7. Eat enormous amounts of popsicles.

For some strange reason, eating popsicles in the dead of winter isn't really fun. Don't ask me why. Maybe it's the freezing weather, maybe it's that it doesn't pair nicely with the three layers of turtlenecks. There are boundless options, honestly.

8. Have a pedicure party.

Flip flops still rule over the kingdom of summer, so show off those nails while you can! Soon enough, the boots and wool socks will come along and make that ridiculous shade of pink on your toes obsolete.

9. Reunite with high school/middle school friends.

One of the most important things to me is reuniting with my long-time friends during the summer. We all go to different colleges, and so we only have 3 months (or less) to get in quality BFF time before we run off to opposite ends of America.

10. Buy ONE special outfit for school.

Notice the emphasis on one. Sadly, I've already broken that rule...but you still have a chance to remain in control!

11. Start doing yoga.

I say I do yoga. I have the pants, the mat and the time. I don't do yoga. But, I have a feeling this year is going to be the year to get rid of that stress in a non-binge-eating-ice-cream way, so why not that start that good habit now?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
