Reporting from Seoul, Korea, my life has been infiltrated by K-Pop. Beautiful, talented performers and artists have decided it's OK to take over my potential social life. Like these mesmerizing ladies who don't age...
Or these endearing gentlemen who will win over your heart with their well-exercised falsetto voices and captivating raps, and will then leave you paralyzed with their sick, tight moves.
I can't forget this squad of perfect specimens blessed with the most angelic of voices. Every time they open their mouths, I see God.
There are also these crazy dudes who know how to party.
And these lovely ladies who are just so incredibly beautiful and talented and coordinated and inspiring and mesmerizing and did I say beautiful?
I only discovered the world of K-Pop just three weeks ago. I'm still learning, and I still have a lot left to learn. But that doesn't mean I can't be obsessed incredibly passionate and supportive of this particular art form.
I may have spent two plus hours every night for the past week watching YouTube video after YouTube video of young Korean adults goofing around back stage, multiple dance practices for the same song and mountains of music videos starring the most in-sync dancers and artists who really know how to get emotional and moody like this young lad.
Damn, son.
Now before I discovered K-Pop like Amerigo Vespucci discovered America, I didn't think it was that big. Honestly, I thought it to be quite juvenile. And, oh boy, was I wrong. Just check out these screaming fans.
And this slaying savagery.
K-Pop ain't tame.
I am slowly evolving into your typical K-Pop fan with my various biases, my bias wreckers, my bias group, knowing members' blood-types, ignoring the looming fact that all of the male performers are still required to serve in the Korean military before the age of 30, singing the same song for at least two weeks, attempting to learn the dance and mumbling through the Korean lyrics like...
You may think me to be sad and pathetic for falling so quickly for this empire of exquisite, untouchable, beyond human entities including these majestic fellas...
And these gorgeous girls.
You may also think that K-Pop can't be that good. Believe me; it's good. However, it may not be your cup of tea—or your cup of soju. But try it at least once. If you like to party, give this turnt up tune a listen. If you're more classic, then enjoy this timeless jam. Or listen to this newest hit if you're OK with it finding its way inside your mind, pitching a tent, warming up to a cozy fire and staying for at least eight days.
After trying K-Pop and still not digging it, then you are free to just keeping doing you.
This is a new but nevertheless proud and passionate fan of K-Pop signing off. Until next time, 감사합니다. 나중에 참조 (Thank you. See you later).
