Knowledge Is Power

Education is going to change the world.

We've all heard it before and it's been said time and time again that education is the key to success. We're growing up in a country whose whole system of control pushes us towards getting a degree in order to be a productive member of society.

We go to college and have the time of our life. We work hard and party harder. We grow up, create ourselves and take on the responsibilities of the world. Generation after generation these responsibilities get handed down to those who come after our time is up. At a certain age, the generations in power get old, tired and must move over. I for one cannot wait for my generation's turn to change the world. It's out with the old and in with the new.

The leaders of our world, the guys whose voices get heard, are from a different time. They come from a world before this, a time of stubbornness, of aggression, misunderstanding and lack of empathy. Theses leaders are stuck in an old world of thinking. It is a time of separateness, putting us against them. It's a time of competition and a belief that through physical force we can change the world. The truth is in order to change the outer, we must first focus on the inner.

I envision a world where education, and the pursuit of happiness in one's inner self, not material gain are of the most importance. I envision a world with less military and more teachers; less politicians and more leaders. I envision a world where the love of knowledge over comes the love of power.

How can we make this happen? The answer is simple, folks: put education first. If our country still has enough money to drop a trillion dollars on a military grade stealth bomber jet, then how come we can use that money to pay off college loans? Why is our government willing to spend so much money on a death machine, than help its citizens free up their life and time? If we're in such a large debt, why do we continue to spend our money on ridiculous things? I don't remember our military ever asking for our opinion on what to do with our money. I don't remember there ever being an option for the citizens to vote for where our money is going. This is why our education is lacking: the government is too concerned with fighting other peoples wars.

There will come a time when this system of power must fall. There is a storm coming, bringing forth a wave of opportunity from the chaos. Our political systems must fall, they must crack under the pressure. Our government is corrupted, not of the people or for it.

My brothers and sisters, I write to you in hopes that we can be the change for our country. Let us drop our weapons and pick up a book. Let us stop killing people with violence and instead kill them with kindness. So many of our brothers and sisters are lost in their mind. They are taken over by hate and misunderstanding. The world is sick, and education is the cure.

It is so important for everyone in our country to have an equal opportunity at higher education. Many will not want it, but for those that do, there is power to be learned. We will learn to grow together, unite the world and save lives. We are the future; our time is coming, and we must be ready. Knowledge is power: let's stand strong together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
