You Know You're a Penn State Sorority Girl When...

I think every Penn State sorority girl can relate to these.

You Know You're a Penn State Sorority Girl When...

Penn State Greek culture is legendary and unlike the culture at any other school. But what's even more unique are Penn State sorority girls. They are a different breed all together. If you are lucky to be one, this list applies to you.

This list may be foreign to some, but to you this is what occurs every single day:

1. You wear letters at the gym. The brands Lululemon, Nike and Under Armour mean nothing to you. Well, maybe they do, but you only wear the bottoms. It’s all about your letters and who sees them. You’re so proud of your sorority, you rep it whenever possible.

2. You buy themed outfits not for Halloween. You find yourself at your local Halloween store, just not during the month of October. You end up buying outfits your parents would not be proud to see you in, but it’s totally fine because your whole sorority is doing it with you. From house wives, to aliens and even playboy mansion, anything is possible.

3. When you hear the word “little”, you actually think of a person. You hear the word little, perhaps as an adjective to describe someone, but you immediately think of a person. Who, you may ask, is this person? This girl is your pride and joy, your “little sister” who you hand picked from the pledge class below you. You have an unhealthy obsession with her, but who cares? Because she’s your little.

4. You know what the phrases "late night", "the floor", "pickups" and "frackets" mean. These words may be foreign to some people, but to you these words are said time and time again. I will define these words for people who need a refresher:

  • Late Night. The party after the party. Of course, you only hear about where this party is, by word-of-mouth. Only the most exclusive go.
  • The Floor. The sorority haven, their own person sanctuary, some may say. You always see an unhealthy amount of overly excited girls emerging from these buildings, whether they are going to class or going out.
  • Pickups. The frats' pledges pick up the sorority girls they’re social-ing with so the girls don’t have to walk a mile in heels, especially if it’s cold out.
  • Frackets. Your ugliest sweatshirt that you probably got as a 12th birthday present from your grandma. You thought this jacket would never see daylight, but think again. This jacket comes in handy when it’s cold out and you’re wearing minimal clothing. But don’t worry, you’ll never see that jacket again after the night is over because someone will definitely steal it.

5. You drink an iced coffee in the morning when you don’t really need it. This is brief and to the point. You drink this coffee because it’s a great Instagram picture or it looks cool.

6. You know what “four-way" means, and it’s not a sexual reference. Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! A four-way is not anything bad; it’s simply a social with two sororities and two fraternities. Or, if you're lucky, three fraternities.

7. You have T-shirts from the early 2000s. You most likely have shirts from ages ago that have been passed down to you from your “g-big” or your “g-g-big”. Every questionable mark on the shirt has a story about it.

8. Chipotle is life. Don’t have to explain this one, because you know waiting in the line for an hour to get a burrito or salad bowl is always worth it.

9. The last Friday before finals is important to you. You know this date by heart and picked out the dress for this special night months in advance. You nervously wait to be asked by someone in a frat, or your boyfriend will take you. Don’t worry if you get set up because the room is always full of blind dates.

10. No matter what, someone is always down for Pokey Sticks. After a long night of going out in Fratland, this food cures all. You don’t even need the number to Gumby’s because, duh, it’s programmed into your phone. When the box comes, you and your friends immediately devour it like animals. Nothing compares to the taste of the heavenly bread and cheese combo.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
