Social (Media) Cues

This literally makes no sense

Social media is a huge part of our daily lives. We connect each and every day with people that are ten miles away to one thousand miles away with the touch of a button. While this has tons of upsides, it also has a multitude of negatives, most of which have to do with relationships. We look to insignificant social media cues such as Instagram likes and subtweets on Twitter to gauge what someone is feeling when it comes to us. We're all guilty of it no matter which way you slice it.

While social media makes it easier to communicate, it also makes it more difficult. Before social media if you wanted to say what you were feeling, you kept a diary. Now you can tweet your exact thoughts for the entire worldwide web to see; not that this is a bad thing. Sharing ideas and feeling can help you connect to others when you thought you were alone.

However, sharing your thoughts isn't always one hundred percent direct. People can often be left wondering what in god's name you are talking about. For example, your boyfriend tweets lyrics from Drake's "Too Good". It leaves you wondering what you did that annoyed him so much that he turned to Rhianna and Drake for solace. The answer is simple. You didn't do anything. He's just really enjoying Views at this moment in time and had to share his feelings with Twitter. But would you have thought that in the first place? No, probably not.

Yet another instance would be when you haven't heard back from that guy you went to Honeygrow with last week. Is he ignoring your texts or did he is just an awful texter? You truly have no idea because all he does is tweet and like Tasty videos on Facebook. This is a question you'll probably not get the answer to.

When it comes down to it, social media is great. It really is, but a lot of times it leads to someone getting the wrong message in one instance or another. You don't want to ask what they mean if you suspect a post is about you because that's awfully uncomfortable if your hunch is wrong. So for now until we as people go all Raven Baxter and find the inspiration for subtweets we will all have Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean?" in our spotify playlists.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
