Have you ever wanted to watch a bunch of guys take to the stage, spinning, dancing, and making fools of themselves, all in the name of philanthropy? If so, then Alpha Phi’s King of Hearts was made for you.
Every year, the Alpha Phi chapter at Georgia Tech hosts King of Hearts: a male beauty pageant to raise money for the Alpha Phi Foundation, which supports women’s heart health. The week leading up to the event is Heart Health week, and girls, as well as contestants, will be out on campus raising money and spreading the word about heart health. Highlights of the week include free cookies, Yik-Yak swag, Southern Tide gear, and events such as Jail-and-Bail, where contestants are handcuffed to their coaches and have to raise a set amount of money to get out of “jail.” T-shirts and wrist bands will also be available for purchase.
Friday night is when the pageant itself kicks off. At 7 o’clock, the Ferst Theater comes to life as contestants take to the stage, dancing to win the audience’s heart. The pageant starts off with a group dance before breaking down into the individual rounds, which include swimwear, talent, and formal wear. The end of the night is the awards ceremony, where the King is crowned. Other awards will be given out to the crowd's favorite and to the contestant who raises the most money.
Regardless of whether you know a contestant or not, this an event you won’t want to miss. Who wouldn't want to see that booty poppin' on stage?
