It was only recently that I watched "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James. Yes. I know that that’s a terrible thing to say. And no, I didn’t watch it ironically. I watched it because I wanted to watch two freaks get it on. Unfortunately, the sex scenes are terrible, and in the first movie, it doesn’t look like they have a lot of chemistry. But, I kept watching. There was something I liked about it.
The Spoilers
I liked it for several reasons. First, Anastasia Steele is super relatable. When Christian Grey is like, “I wanna do all these debauched things to you,” she’s like, “Nuh-uh.” Also, she is such a bookworm and she loves "Tess of the D'Urbervilles." She also, I argue, is way more independent and stubborn than Bella Swan from "Twilight," the character she is based on. I think I even liked Christian Grey, even though he is trash for most of the movie.
So, I was excited for the third movie ("Fifty Shades Freed"), which came out on Valentine’s Day last week. I watched it a few days after it came out. And I loved it. Abashedly.
The Good Parts
I liked how they had less sex this time and more of a plot. Even though they stole part of the plot from "Twilight" about the kidnapping, they really did a better job than the first movie which was just them going back and forth about their relationship. I loved that she gets pregnant, and Christian is so stupid about it that she yells at him. She basically says that the baby comes first, and he needs to grow the hell up; it's not all about him.
There is that delicious sex scene with the ice cream.
I'll let the video speak for itself.
There is a part when Anna tries to drive Christian's most expensive car, and he tells her no. Later, he lets her drive it. It's cute.
I enjoyed the part when she shoots Jack and when Christian cries in the hospital.
The Annoying Parts
Christian was an asshole all the time, and Anna was always getting into fights with him about his bad behavior. It reminded me of when Edward kept bossing Bella around. In the beginning, while on their honeymoon, Anna wants to take her top off. Christian tells her not to. If a girl wants to let her boobs out, she should take her boobs out. Shake 'em around. Also, Christian used sex to get revenge one time, and that was not cool. Really, his character is a dick. I admittedly still liked him in a weird way.
In Conclusion
Yes, the writing could be better, but this movie is about a girl getting her happy ending. And she needs it. She deserves a happy ending. Her husband is a recovering sadist.
Who doesn't want a happy ending?
