When you see the name Kim Kardashian, as you inevitably will on a daily basis thanks to the Internet, what do you think? TV personality? Fashion icon? Business mogul? Wife of Kanye West and mother of North and Saint West? How about this generation’s Gatsby?
Let’s look at the facts: Kim K is a prominent member of the elite 2 percent upper class. She has achieved enormous wealth with her net worth exceeding $85 million as of 2015. She achieved her vast fortune through disreputable means (aka er 2007 sex tape with Ray J). She later pursued further celebrities by marrying famous hockey player Kris Humphries in 2010, and later remarrying popular rap personality Kanye West in 2014. She wears flashy clothes and has a certain fixation for white dresses.
Her gaudy style, distasteful displays of money and vulgarity rise to fame but despite her infamy and wealth, she is not accepted by her fellow celebrities.
"I say to people all the time, if you want guidance for your fashion, just consider this: If a Kardashian is wearing it, don't." — Tim Gunn
"It's not that you hate any of them individually, but it's just that everything they stand for is against everything I stand for. And they're not famous for talent." — Rebel Wilson

No matter how creatively she managed to achieve her fortune, she will never live up to the traditional expectations of Hollywood, effectively proving that the American dream is a lie.
Sound familiar? James Gatz made his claim to fame through the sale of illegal drugs, later changing his name to Jay Gatsby. Once he obtains the standard of money that is equal to his upper-class counterparts, he further makes his point by wearing tacky, yet remarkable clothes. He moved into a posh mansion, hosted extravagant parties and pursued certain renowned figures in white dresses (aka Daisy). Despite his popularity and riches, he is repeatedly disrespected by millionaire Tom Buchanan and the woman of his dreams, Daisy Buchanan.
Conclusion? Whatever you may think of Kim Kardashian, the evidence is pretty undeniable that she is indeed our generation’s Jay Gatsby.
