The summer holidays are officially over, and it's time for all of us to hand in the swimsuits and sunscreen for our books and student duties. Whether you want to or not, this is the simple reality. So you can decide to either sit in a corner and sulk about it or be pro-active and begin it with all the enthusiasm you can muster.
To make start of class a little sweeter, here's a few tips to make this year your best year ever!
1. Get organized.
Buy a diary or use a smartphone, but make sure you have your schedule figured out asap; whether it is the class roster, the house chores or your nights out with friends, don't give yourself the chance to forget any of it. Write it down and you won't forget it.
2. Hold back on the shopping spree.
We all know you want the fancy new instruments and apparel to look the part. But you probably could save a lot of money just by recycling some of your old stuff from last year, stuck in some box or drawer you're trying to forget about.
3. Rekindle with friends.
The only thing that makes long nights of work and study standable is your friends. So, meet up with them for a coffee or lunch or a drink and ask them about their summer holidays. You know you want to!
4. Get that internship/part time job!
If you haven't already, start looking for that source of money that will keep you independent and satisfied. Whether it is a babysitting job or an internship, there's plenty of opportunities out there for you, and you should make sure you don't miss out on the best spots!
5. Figure out your food.
Remember those nights with a deadline, with you stressing out about your assignment on an empty stomach? Either buying fast food from the dodgy pizza place across the street or even fasting for two days straight, let's avoid those, shall we! Find yourself a good store within reasonable distance from school or your residence and make sure you get your groceries on a weekly basis. Or maybe check if any shops do deliveries to your area for a reasonable price.
6. Read the class syllabus.
Even if you only get to go through it very fast the night before, make sure you get to class informed. You never know if you're going to get called out on it by the professor on the first day, plus you might as well be informed on what to expect for this term.
7. Get active!
Make sure you have at least two days of moderate activity planned every week. A walk in the park, a match with friends, or simply a half an hour spent in the gym. They all count. Results: I promise you'll feel better. And who knows, you might make this the fittest year of your life!
