Between the television shows, the selfies on Instagram, the sassy one-liners on Twitter and the Snapchat videos that will make you feel like family; the Kardashian-Jenner sisters have managed to completely dominate social media. But it seems as though the fashion forward sisters have created a new trend in the world of self-promotion. On Sept. 14, at the Apple store in Soho, NY, the Kardashian sisters announced the release of their very own apps. The apps are self titled, “Kim,” “Khloe,” “Kylie,” and “Kendall.” The store will also soon feature a “Kourtney” app that is still being developed.
So here’s what you need to know about the apps.
- “We obviously love the same things, but we have different passions.” This quote from Kim explains why the sisters chose to do individual apps, instead of a family app. Each one is tailored to the sisters’ interests, style and daily life. So if you’re a Khloe fan, you no longer have to sit through Kim’s nonsense.
- The apps are the sisters’ form of comment control. While the Kardashian sisters have undoubtedly developed thick skin through their constant exposure to press, a girl can only take so much. By moving away from social media, the sisters expressed that they hope to remove all negative comments and attitudes from their posts. The apps will also be an outlet used to dispel rumors or negative media attention that can often become misconstrued.
- “I feel like you post one photo from one event or situation, but you have so many other photos beyond that, so you can show the rest of the photos” Kylie continued to explain that the app would allow the sisters to share more photos and content than other social media platforms.
- The sisters were not allowed to view any app, except their own, before the launch. Each sister worked with a team who helped her develop and create the app individually. This insured diversity in content, and that fans would gain a sincere sense of connection to each girl.
- “Your brand is a reflection of yourself,” said Khloe. In the press conference, Kim discussed the idea that sparked the creation of their new apps. “We wanted to change our digital platform, and make it more than just a blog that we had before. I just felt like there was no other platform that could do it all unless we do it ourselves.” The apps will act as the sisters’ new way of reinforcing their individual brands and communicating ideas to their fans without a middleman in the form of a social media outlet.
While I will admit I only cared to download the Khloe and Kylie apps, this concept sounds as though the Kardashians may have just sparked a new self-promotion trend. Let’s see whose app it is you’ll be downloading next.
