We all anticipate it, we all dread it, but we all will get through it. Finals week is one of the worst weeks we Oregonians get to experience at least three times a year, more for some of us. Go into finals knowing that spring break is right around the corner; know that you are going to be off to Cabo, Palm Springs, the beach or somewhere warm and sunny. Finals can be hard to prepare for, and most people just want to get them over with. I decided to share what I am planning on doing to prepare for finals week so I do not slack off, and I still succeed in my classes.
Only three more weeks till we all will be taking finals and then on our way for spring break. It is time to prepare, now.
1. Plan ahead
Planning out these next three week can help your study schedule and your grade, immensely. Write down when all your finals are, write down what is due every day for the next three weeks and make plans when to go to your favorite study spot, and commit to studying there for a certain amount of time with no distractions.
2. Go into your professor's office hours.
Going to office hours shows your professor you truly do care about your grade. Although you should have been going into office hours all term, we know how unrealistic that is. Going in and asking questions about a paper that is due, or about the final, can give you secrets and hints about how to prepare. It will also show your professor that you are already prepared (even if you aren't).
3. Have a friend change all your passwords on social media.
Social media is the ultimate distraction to any college student. One way to make sure you are productive in the library is to have a friend change all your social media passwords during dead week and finals week. You will get so much more done. Going to the library and sitting on social media for the first hour is wasting your time when you could have already taught yourself a whole chapter of your subject.
4. Find a study buddy.
Finding a study buddy in your class will help you prepare so much for your finals. Having a study buddy will help you have motivation to go to study and that person can also help you with chapters you might not understand. Most of all, having a study buddy makes studying less depressing and much more fun.
5. Make time to have fun, and for me time.
Sometimes, during finals week your brain just turns into mush and you need some me time. Make time for this. It is so important to make sure this happens. Whether it be going to the gym, hanging out with friends, watching Netflix, or napping -- whatever it is, make time in your schedule for it. It will make you less grumpy, less stressed, and you might even have fun and forget about finals for a little bit.
Finals are so important as a college student. Follow these tips and I assure you that you will do the best to your ability on your finals. Think about it -- once it is all over you will have seven to ten days of spring break. The relief of getting a good grade back is much better than blowing off your work and not doing as well as you could have. Remember, hard work does pay off. I promise you that.
